Karen G - I agree with your comment. The Elements series prefers simple, plain English terms whenever possible. The 'synonyms' is listed so that our preferred term can be recognized as such over the Latin terminology in this case.

"Ciliary trichomegaly" is a rather complicated term for very long eye lashes. "Tricho" refers to all hair, thus the addition of the term "ciliary" is necessary. "Megaly" implies general enlargement, not specifically increased length. The term "dolichocilia" is more specific, because "dolicho" implies increased length. "Dolichocilia" is a less complicated and more accurate term for increased eye lash length.
