Eyes, Closely Spaced

Definition:

Objective: Interpupillary distance more than 2 SD below the mean OR Interpupillary distance below the 3rd centile

Subjective: The interpupillary distance appears to be decreased

Comments:

The finding is measured according to Hall et al. [2007]. Note that the data from Hall et al. [2007] show SD for newborns and centiles for older patients. In the latter data, there is a continuing increase in this measurement between 14 and 15 years of age, so in the objective finding cannot be made using these norms in persons above 15 years of age. See Figure 3 for a gestalt of normal and abnormal eye spacing.
